Apparently to woman was an honor student, with a double major in psychology and biology. She was planning on attending graduate school next year in the pursuit of Master’s degree in Neuropsychology.

It had only been two weeks since the woman graduated when she was driving to see her friends at UNCC with a friend in the passenger seat. She had been drinking and the weather was terrible; icy roads, hail storms, and rain coming from all sides.

The two ladies were driving northbound on Interstate 85, around 3:40 a.m. Saturday night, when the driver lost control of her vehicle, spinning on the icy roadway.

The vehicle subsequently slammed into a utility pole near the Harris Boulevard exit on I-85. The driver and the passenger were both immediately taken to Carolinas Medical Center. The passenger suffered serious injuries, and the driver was found in critical condition, until she passed away in the hospital from the impact of the crash.

The North Carolina State Troopers investigated the accident, and stated the weather; in addition to the alcohol consumption were the factors that caused the accident. This was not the first DWI that the driver had been charged with.
