Emergency crews from two different sources rushed to the scene late Monday night when they were informed that a pedestrian had been struck on the side of the Interstat
e.
Police reports conclude that the North Carolina Highway Patrol was working on an accident that had occurred earlier on Interstate -85 when they suddenly heard over the dispatcher that a man was struck while on the side of the highway.
Apparently, clean up crews worked around the clock for almost an hour before the southbound lanes on I-85 were re-opened for travel. In the meantime, the traffic was detoured to I-77’s Brookshire Freeway Exit, then re-routing travelers back onto NC 16, then back again to I-85.
It was during this detour that the pedestrian was struck, yet there are no details as to why he was out of his vehicle at the time of incident.
The location of these two accidents was crucial; right where Interstate -85 in Charlotte meets with Interstate-77, near mile marker 38.
This particular location has gained some notoriety for its dangerous sharp turns, and its converging lanes that split again for the Northbound or Southbound drive.
There are not too many details on the minor accident that initially occurred, yet we do know that the pedestrian was rushed to CMC Main, with ” potentially life-threatening injuries.”
