Being health-conscious sometimes means parting ways with things we love, that don’t love our bodies back. So, many of those health-conscious people choose to veer away from heavy drinking. Depending on your poison of choice, alcohol is typically high in carbohydrates, sugar, calories, and other stuff we try to avoid. So, you might find yourself asking: “how do I drink without all the added guilt?” While we can’t help you conquer that cringe-worthy bull ride, we can help you determine some healthier alcohol consumption methods. That way, all your friends will stop using your lifestyle as a means of never having to be the D.D.

Healthier Alcohol Consumption Methods: Drinking Guilt-free

Avoiding mixers

Now this lifestyle of yours is important to you, so maybe you’re willing to sacrifice flavor for that. However, to keep your intake as low as possible, you’ll have to say goodbye to your dear friend ginger ale. Instead, consider drinking your alcohol neat, on the rocks, or with a splash of water or seltzer. Now, this is not for the faint of heart, but it does help you accomplish your goal of healthier alcohol consumption. If you want to go this route, but just can’t drink it straight… we don’t blame you. Go for seltzer water instead of simply neat.

Also, consider drinking lightly colored alcohols, such as vodka and gin, are lower in calories than say, whiskey is. So, to avoid the calories, make sure you can see right through your drink.

Take your vitamins tomorrow

Drinking, while it can be the opposite of health-conscious, is inevitable for most adults. So, after a night of drinking, take your vitamins and get yourself straightened out. We all know that drinking can be tough in the organs, so reward them the next day with good food, lots of water, rest, and a kick of vitamins.

Want a mixed drink? Order a mojito

When it comes to health conscious, delicious drinks— mojito’s are about at the top of the food chain. Think about it: White rum, seltzer, mint lime, and a hint of sugar… not too bad. Our only suggestion is to request the bartender go light on the sweetener. Other than that, the fresh lime and mint adds a little nutritional value that you might have missed otherwise.

Check out those sparked seltzers!!!

Sparked seltzers are the new drink of the summer, and we must say— we’re on board. They’re all natural, low carb, low-cal, gluten-free. Not to mention, most of them boast a 5% alcohol content, which is right on par with many beer options.

So, as you can see, you can still drink and be health-conscious. It’s just all in how you do it. So drink safe, drink smart, and if you want to, drink healthy.
