A man from Matthews has just pled guilty to a Felony DWI, when he drove while impaired with his grandmother and child in the vehicle.
Accordingly, the 28-year-old defendant pled guilty on Wednesday to two counts of “felony death by motor vehicle” and an additional charge of assault with a “deadly weapon while inflicting serious injury,” in the deadly crash that killed both the 37-year-old daughter, and her 62-year-old grandmother. The defendant’s BAC level at the time was .20, almost three times the legal limit.
The police report states that the defendant ran a red light on Pineville Matthews Road, and struck the vehicle carrying in it the victim grandmother and her daughter. The accident occurred back in December of 2012. He was driving a reported 30 m.p.h. over the posted speed limit.
The daughter and her grandmother were killed, and the 37-year-olds minor children were seriously injured by the crash, but ultimately survived by miracle.
Eyewitnesses reported that the defendant had been driving while intoxicated for some time, as he struck many vehicles by ” side-swiping them,” before the fatal crash occurred.
