A North Carolina State football player has been charged with DWI while under the age of 21. The player is a red-shirt junior fullback with NC State. Further, it has not yet been released what exactly led up to his arrest and eventual charge of DWI. His court date is set for March 25th in Wake County.
The man is under the age of 21 which means that he is held to a higher standard. If an underage drinker has been charged with a DWI, they will automatically be subject to a one year license suspension for the following reasons:
- If the person under 21 years of age attempts to purchase or purchases an alcoholic beverage;
- If the person under 21 aids or abets someone in the purchase of alcohol;
- They attempt to use a fake driver’s license or ID to purchase alcoholic beverages;
- Anyone who allows an underage person to use his or her license to purchase alcohol; and
- If the person is under 21 and is convicted for driving with ANY amount of alcohol or drugs in his or her body.
These rules seem pretty stiff with regard to how the state of North Carolina treats underage drinkers; however, statistically underage drinkers are more susceptible to driving infractions than drivers over the age of 21.
