Law enforcement officials in Sanford, North Carolina have set up a mock car accident in order to illustrate to Southern Lee High School the devastating consequences associated with driving while intoxicated.  The officers used two vehicles, which were set up as if they had been involved in an accident.  A few of the students were selected as victims and they pretended to be slumped over in the vehicles and covered in fake blood.

One of the officers walked up to the accident, and acted as though he was responding to the collision.  Two of the students were declared dead, and their bodies were covered in blankets.  The officers then proceeded to perform field sobriety tests on the uninjured driver.  He was thereafter arrested and as he was guided to the police car, he was forced to walk past the deceased passengers.

This demonstration, while graphic, was intended to show students how devastating driving while intoxicated (DWI) repercussions can be.  The idea was that if you have had too much to drink, do not drive or ride with a friend who may be intoxicated.  It is much better to call home and find a safe ride.  Law enforcement hopes that the demonstration will help to keep intoxicated teenagers off the road.   Therefore, it is always recommended that everyone, and not just teens stay off the road after consumption of alcohol.
