Three Davidson Correctional Center inmates escaped from prison late last December. They were assigned to cafeteria duty in the prison and discovered a location where they would be able to escape from behind the prison kitchen. Then men exited to enter the ABC store and purchase liquor and the grocery store to purchase cigarettes. As soon as the items were purchased, the inmates returned to the correctional facility.
Thereafter, the inmates were charged with felony escape after prison officials found out about the escape after investigating video footage at the grocery store and the ABC store. The prison has since fixed the part of the fence where the inmates were able to escape. One of the inmates was scheduled to be released a week after the incident due to the fact that his larceny, breaking and entering, and DWI charges had expired; however, while he will be released, he will still have to stand trial for the escape charge.
