Police officer conducting sobriety testAmid the number of DWI arrests made by police this month, one arrest in Waxahaw stands out in the community. Police arrested the mayor of the town of Waxahaw for driving while intoxicated earlier in the month.  The mayor was stopped by police when an officer observed her vehicle weaving on the road.  Allegedly her vehicle crossed the center line of the road many times.

It is unknown how she performed on field sobriety tests but she did submit to a chemical analysis. The test revealed she had a 0.18 BAC the night of her arrest. The legal limit in North Carolina is 0.08. The mayor will have to go to a hearing on August 15th. The town council has not yet decided how to handle the DWI charge.
