With the July 4th holiday fast approaching, many people across North Carolina are preparing to celebrate. Many times the celebration will include having a few drinks to kick back and relax. Of course there is nothing wrong with enjoy a few drink over the holiday, but it may become a problem if someone decides to get behind the wheel of a car. Law enforcement agencies around the state are getting ready to combat driving while impaired during the holiday this year.
A campaign that is dedicated to DWI detection will begin in North Carolina starting today. Police from all around the state will be setting up sobriety checkpoints and dedicated patrols in order to deter and stop impaired driving. Law enforcement will also be using mobile alcohol-breath testing vehicles at DWI checkpoints, known as BAT-Mobiles. These mobile sites include the standard Intoxilyzer 5000 breath test machine as well as workstations for officers and magistrates.
The campaign is scheduled to continue throughout the July 4th holiday. Results of the campaign will likely be releases shortly after.
