A deputy was injured last week during what started out to be a routine DWI arrest in Greensboro, NC. The deputy stopped a vehicle during his shift Thursday night and after an investigation he arrested the driver for DWI. He then placed the driver in the back of his cruiser. After he put the driver in his cruiser another vehicle crashed into the back side of the deputy’s vehicle near the driver’s side. The vehicle was traveling at approximately 50 to 60 mph.
The lights on the police vehicle were on, but the driver of the vehicle who crashed into it claims they did not see the police vehicle. There two occupants in the vehicle, both of whom had to be taken to the hospital. The deputy and the person who was arrested also had to be taken to the hospital. The injuries suffered during the accident were minor in nature.
The driver who was originally arrested is being charged with DWI among other charges. The driver who hit the deputy’s vehicle is being charged with Failure to Move Over and Failure to Reduce Speed. The deputy who was injured is still recovering from the injuries he suffered.
