In an effort to catch drunk drivers during the Halloween season, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and the Governor Highway Safety Program kicked of the Booze It or Lose It campaign Thursday nightCharlotte DWI Attorney.

The campaign runs until October 31.  Law enforcement personnel will be out patrolling, focusing mainly on removing drunk drivers.

The first night of the campaign had CMPD located at a DWI checkpoint on the 4900 block of Providence Road from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Officers made a total of 53 arrests—8 being DWI charges.

The campaign continued on Friday night at the 6100 block of Brookshire Boulevard.  Here, sixty-four arrests were made—ten of which were for drunk driving.

Just last year, 388 people died in alcohol-related crashes in North Carolina.  Drunk driving is never acceptable.  Plain and simple.  If you plan on having a few alcoholic beverages, also plan for safe transportation.  Have a reliable taxi-cab company’s number on hand.  Or, call a friend.
