North Carolina requires anyone who is convicted of DWI to receive a substance abuse assessment and complete any recommended treatment. If you find yourself in this situation you will need to go to a center approved by the state in order to receive your assessment. Once you receive your assessment and complete the recommended treatment you may then have your driver’s license reinstated. The treatment you are required to complete will vary depending on the severity of your DWI charge and previous history.
The paperwork you will need to take with you to your assessment is a complete DMV record all states you have had a driver’s license including NC, documentation of what your BAC was at the time of your arrest, and a copy of the citation and court papers relating to your DWI charge. The costs for this assessment and treatment may vary but generally the assessment is $100. The cost of the treatment itself will depend on what you must complete.
When you have completed your treatment and the revocation period has ended you may then have your driving privileges re-instated. Additionally there may be other DMV costs that you will have to pay in order to get your driver’s license.
