Charlotte DWI AttorneyIn odd news a story was reported today from Florida regarding a drunk man who fled from police.  The police received complaints that about an intoxicated man riding around a Florida town and went to investigate.  The twist to this story is that the man was not operating a motor vehicle, but rather he was riding a horse.  Police found the man crossing a street when an officer activated his lights and stopped the man.  The police officer told the man to dismount the horse but instead the man ignored the officer and took off running from police on the horse.  The police continued to purse the man with their emergency lights on but without sirens to prevent from scaring the horse.  After approximately half an hour the horse became exhausted at which point the man took off running of foot.  He was eventually captured by police shortly after.   He was not charged with DWI but was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and cruelty to animals.

North Carolina at one point would allow someone to be charged with DWI if he or she was riding a horse, however the DWI statute in NC has been modified to plainly state that a horse is not a vehicle for the purpose of DWI.
