The campaign runs until October 31. Law enforcement personnel will be out patrolling, focusing mainly on removing drunk drivers.
The first night of the campaign had CMPD located at a DWI checkpoint on the 4900 block of Providence Road from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Officers made a total of 53 arrests—8 being DWI charges.
The campaign continued on Friday night at the 6100 block of Brookshire Boulevard. Here, sixty-four arrests were made—ten of which were for drunk driving.
Just last year, 388 people died in alcohol-related crashes in North Carolina. Drunk driving is never acceptable. Plain and simple. If you plan on having a few alcoholic beverages, also plan for safe transportation. Have a reliable taxi-cab company’s number on hand. Or, call a friend.
