An early morning collision has resulted in three injuries according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.  One of the driver faces driving while intoxicated (DWI) and other charges.  The cartwo-car-accident accident occurred at around 1:00 a.m. on the 15400 block of Johnston Road, near Marvin Road.  Police report that all three vehicles were traveling south when the accident took place.

The driver who was charged with DWI was driving a 2007 BMW at what investigators report to be a “high rate of speed.”  The vehicle then struck a 2005 Nissan from behind, moved back into the left lane of the road and smashed into the back of a 2011 Toyota Rav4.  The allegedly drunken man’s vehicle caught fire following the accident, and he was able to escape with the assistance of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The collision forced authorities to close a portion of Johnston Rd. down for several hours.  The driver of the Toyota was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Police have charged the driver of the BMW with DWI, and report that further charges, related to the injuries of the others involved, are possible.
