A teenager, who fatally struck a pedestrian in April 2012, was sentenced in Union County, North Carolina this week. The incident occurred as a pedestrian was walking home on the shoulder of the road, the teenager struck him, and he fled the scene. It was later deduced that the young woman was intoxicated at the time. The vehicle was traveling over the speed limit at 56 m.p.h at the time, and the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.
A plea deal was reached, where she was found guilty of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failing to stop at the scene of a crash where a death occurred. The sentence states that she will receive two years of supervised probation and has to complete 75 hours of community service. Additionally, she will have to pay restitution and wear an alcohol monitoring device.
