Two Gastonia men have been arrested for DWI by Gaston County Police; one occurred on Monday evening, and the other on Tuesday morning. Both of the men have received DWI convictions in North Carolina. The first man was pulled over by police around 7:00 p.m. on I-85, initially for speeding; however, the officer noticed that the man appeared intoxicated. Further, the man registered a .19 in the breath-test, which is more than double the legal limit. The officers, thereafter, found that the man has had four previous convictions for DWI between 2010 and 2012.
The second suspect of the week was apprehended by police on Ransom Street at 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning in Gastonia. The man was initially stopped by police when it was established that his license plate was not illuminated properly. The suspect then was asked to perform an array of field-sobriety tests, of which he allegedly failed all of them. The man claimed that his lack of balance was due to the prescription medication he had taken earlier in the evening. His blood test results are still pending, and police found that this man has been charged with DWI twice between December 2011 and January 2012, this being his third.
