A man speeding over 100 m.p.h. on Interstate 77 took the police on a high speed chase, endangering the lives of many.
An NC Highway Patrol Officer states that the incident began when he saw the man driving a rental car over 50 m.p.h. in a 6- m.p.h. zone on I-77 Tuesday night.
The trooper noticed the driver travelling at a fast rate and began to pursue the defendant. as the officer sped up, so did the defendant, driving over 100 m.p.h. before exiting off of LaSalle Street from I-77.
From there, the man, who may of been intoxicated at the time, crashed his car at the nearest intersection. He was stunned, but restarted his vehicle and subsequently crashed again into a local’s fence on Justice Avenue.
The man then rapidly jumped out of his car, and began to run on foot. The chase was not long thereafter when the officer caught up to the man and apprehended him, placing him under arrest and in handcuffs.
The defendant is now facing over a dozen criminal charges. He is apparently a convicted felon, and the officers have suspicion that the man had a gun in his car, but believe he threw it when running via foot.
