A car accident on Johnston Road left one person charged with a DWI, and the victim of the crime was sent to the hospital with life-threatening conditions.
Police reports state that the defendant was driving on the 15400 block of Johnston Road,around 1:00 a.m. while intoxicated.
The 31-year-old defendant was apparently speeding down the road in his 2007 BMW, when he rear-ended a 2005 Nissan Maxima driven by a 31-year-old female in the right lane.
He then subsequently tried to go around teh accident by getting into the left lane, when he then rear-ended a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 driven by the 37-year-old man from Charlotte.
The defendant’s BMW then burst into flames when it crashed the second time/ Emergency crews were forced to pull the defendant from his flaming vehicle.
The second driver was seriously injured, and rushed to Carolinas Medical Center for immdiate assistance. The defendant was also injured, but his injures were minor. The female driver who was hit did not suffer any personal injuries, but her car was totalled.
The defendant is thusly charged with driving while intoxicated, and police say that additional charges are pending agaisnt the defendant.
Both speed and alcohol were the major factors leading to this terrible accident.
