Since we’ve entered the month of October, most people are excited to partake in their favorite fall drinks. From pumpkin spice lattes to warm apple cider, this time of year is a staple for drinks–including beer. Which means many cities, including Charlotte, will be getting ready for Oktoberfest drinking.

Oktoberfest Drinking: Plan Ahead to Be Safe

Oktoberfest drinkingPlans to Drink

If you’re going to Oktoberfest–you’re going for one thing– the beer. So it’s best to plan ahead that you are going to drink a lot. And you’re most likely going to become drunk. Telling yourself that you won’t drink too much is probably more of a bad joke. Which only leaves you unprepared if you do end up having a little too much. So make safety arrangements as if you’ll be doing some serious drinking. Then you can change the game plan if you actually remain sober.

It’s Not Your Average Beer

Now you may be thinking, “I’m not planning on drinking that much.. I won’t become drunk.” While you may think that now, it’s important to realize Oktoberfest drinking isn’t like drinking your average beer. In fact, many beers served at Oktoberfest are much stronger than what you buy from the store. So while you may plan on having only a few drinks, be careful.

Everyone Else Is Also Oktoberfest Drinking

Another important thing to understand about Oktoberfest drinking is that everyone else is in the same boat. That means they came to the festival to drink. But they thought they wouldn’t become drunk. And they probably weren’t ready for how strong the drinks are. So they have now become just as intoxicated as you. When a whole of people drink in this way, things can get a little rowdy. It’s best to be friendly and avoid any scenes that appear to have tension. Within a moment, someone may become aggressive and you could be in the middle of it.

That also means a lot of people will be needing a ride home. And statistics show that several may attempt to drive themselves, putting you in danger of an accident. So certainly plan to have a DD before ever engaging in Oktoberfest drinking. In addition, think about leaving a little earlier or later than most to avoid those drinking and driving.
