Last Friday night, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department set up a checkpoint on the 5200 block of Wilkinson Boulevard, not too far from Charlotte School of Law. The Checkpoint began around 11:00 p.m., and ended around 3:30 a.m.

This was the second checkpoint set up in two days, and this one yielded 57 charged total, including the following:

“14 charged for NOLs or No Operator’s License, 11 charged with driving on a suspended license, 10 were charged for DWIs, 10 were arrested for outstanding warrants, 3 were charged for drug possession and other charges, and lastly 18 people were cited for other traffic citations, such as not wearing their seatbelt or expired licenses.”

The checkpoint the night before on Thursday was equally as successful. The CMPD set this one up on Central Avenue in East Charlotte.

It was set up from the same 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. time frame, and resulted in 11 drivers charged with DWIs, and 54 other violations, ranging from minor traffic citations to outstanding warrants.

From this weekend forth, the Governor’s Highway Safety Program is pulling all forces together and campaigning through Labor Day Weekend.

Be safe on the roads during the holiday season; not just for yourself, but for others around you as well.
