Raleigh, North Carolina, has just released official reports discussing “Operation Firecracker,” which was the  essentially the code name for the

Fourth of July’s rising Ddrunken-driving-duiWI arrests.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation( NC DOT), “Operation Firecracker” was an absolute success and yielded in almost a whopping 1,800 DWIs from June 28 to July 7th.

The operation resulted in 1,737 DWIs to be exact. The purpose behind this program was to ” keep drunk drivers off the roads,” during the holiday season, when lots of people are drinking, and unfortunately, driving their vehicles afterwards.

The NCDOT states that there are seven different DWI task forces peppered throughout the state, including Mecklenburg County. Guilford County, was among one of the newest task forces that participated in “Operation Firecracker” this year. That county has raised its DWI numbers by almost triple; from 50 in 2012, to 146 this year at the same time.

Out of those forces, 455 of the DWIs were given by these forces.
