A new bill has been introduced in North Carolina, that will potentially place higher costs on those convicted of DWI.  This bill is referred to as Senate Bill 434, and it will require anyone convicted of DWI to have an ignition interlock device installed within their vehicle.  The major issue is that this applies regardless of the level of DWI to which the person is convicted.  This law will also apply to anyone who refuses to take a breath-test or anyone who consumes alcohol under the age of 21-years-old.

A person who is convicted of such a crime would be responsible for paying the costs of having this device installed in their vehicle. A convicted person would also be responsible for any future costs incurred by having the device in their vehicle.  This may potentially cost thousands of dollars.
