A new bill has been introduced in North Carolina that will place higher costs on anyone who is convicted of DWI.  This is Senate Bill 434, and will require anyone convicted of a DWI to have an ignition interlock device installed in his or her vehicle.  This will apply regardless of the level of DWI, and the law will apply to anyone who refuses to take a breath-test, and anyone who consumes alcohol under the age of 21 years-of-age.

The offender will be responsible for paying the installation costs for this device.  Further, the convicted person will also be responsible for future costs incurred by having the device in his or her vehicle, which may potentially cost hundreds and even thousands of dollars.
