It was all over the news in North Carolina when a shoot-out happened during a routine DWI checkpoint in Brunswick County, NC. Two people were arrested after they opened fire at officers during the checkpoint. The two suspects were taken to the hospital after the incident but recovered and have since made an appearance in court. The two suspects face several charges.
In addition to the charges faced at the checkpoint, one of the suspects will receive additional charges since he assaulted a nurse while he was in the hospital after the shooting. According to reports, the suspect grabbed the nurse’s arm and refused to let go of her. The nurse received a large bruise as a result.
There were several agencies involved in the incident, as there were officers from different jurisdictions assisting with the operation of the DWI checkpoint. The SBI is conducting an investigation of the incident while other departments are conducting their own internal investigation. Anytime there is a shooting that involves officers this is generally standard protocol.
