A man in Charlotte was recently convicted of a felony DWI, amongst a slew of other charges, after winter crash resulted in death and serious injury.
Police reports state that the man was driving in the early hours of a Sunday in December, when he lost control of his vehicle on an icy patch of the street on Tyvola Road.
The defendant was a mere 23-year-old when the accident occurred. He was driving his 2000 Nissan Frontier Truck while intoxicated, and struck a tree while travelling westbound on Tyvola.
His 20-year-old female passenger was seriously injured during the incident, while the driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead by the time the Charlotte EMTs arrived.
Moreover, two other people were injured during the crash, and all subsequently transported to Carolinas Medical Center.
Thus, the defendant was charged with not only felony DWI, but also felony death by vehicle, serious injury by vehicle, and driving without a license.
He was kept on the Mecklenburg County Jail, with his bond set at almost $54,000. Immigration officials have also reported that they suspect the defendant was in the country illegally, so he may be facing additional charges not yet released to the public.
